Dr. Adriana Proser, Asia Society Museum NYC: The Art of Impermanence SHOW #61, FEBRUARY 29, 2020

I extend my sincerest thanks to the following for making the February 29, 2020 broadcast possible: Catherine Ladnier and John Mickey Robinson; Sue Hill McClenachan, and Kevin M.J. O'Connor of the Jeffrey Matthews Group; Tony Bricktua, Public Relations Liaison of the Asia Society New York City, and listeners to the Asia Today with Jeffrey Bingham Mead Show. You're invited to help make future broadcasts possible through our GoFundMe campaign or by contacting us at [email protected]

My guest on the Saturday, February 29, 2020 show is Dr. Adriana Proser, the John H. Foster Senior Curator of Traditional Asian Art at Asia Society Museum, New York. She is a recipient of a 1995 PhD in Chinese art and archaeology from Columbia University. Over the last fifteen years, she has organized and co-organized over forty-five exhibitions for Asia Society, New York and elsewhere.

Her Spring 2020 exhibition The Art of Impermanence: Japanese Works from the John C. Weber Collection and Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller 3rd Collection is open to the public through the 26th of April 2020. Through masterpieces of calligraphy, painting, sculpture, ceramics, lacquers, and textiles drawn from two of America’s greatest Japanese art collections, this exhibition examines Japan's unique and nuanced references to transience.

The ills of racial and ethnic discrimination and exclusion have found expression here and around the world, all associated with the spread of the Covid-19 contagion. These ills should not take root in our hearts or in society. Unfounded fear should not be used to justify blaming and ostracizing others just for who they are or who they may be perceived as being associated with. I ask you all to extend the hand of friendship and compassion -especially to those unable to return to their homes and families due to imposed travel restrictions. Together we will defeat the Covid-19.

Asia Today with Jeffrey Bingham Mead airs every Saturday morning 10:30 a.m. Eastern USA Time on Radio 1490 WGCH Greenwich, Connecticut USA and WGCH.com anywhere via live audio streaming worldwide.
