Sgt. 1st. Class Williams Fernandez Calvet served in the Air Force in his native country of Peru for 11 years. When the events of 9/11 happened, he went to talk to a recruiter.

Maj. Shawn Scott has a family history of military service. Though still a highschool senior when the towers fell, Scott felt the need to be a part of the Army and make a difference.

On March 24th OCPA-LA hosted "JOE Talks Hollywood and Army Strategy: Building Better Bridges," a discussion on the mutual value Hollywood professionals and Army Strategists derive from discussing Strategy and Future Warfare. The one-hour virtual discussion and Q&A session with Army Strategist and Author Lt. Col. Matt Cavanaugh, PhD and Best-Selling Author Max Brooks delved into how a deeper understanding by creative professionals in the entertainment industry of the Army, its operations, and strategy will benefit their future projects and, conversely, will benefit Army Strategist to better understand Future Warfare. They also discussed how critical it is that the American public better know its military in order to safeguard the precious resources used to defend the nation. They also discussed their many collaborations, specifically, their book "Strategy Strikes Back," which provides lessons to military strategists using the well-known Star Wars cinematic universe.

JOE Talks Presents Army Personnel and Project Inclusion

On February 24th, OCPA-LA hosted their second JOE Talk featuring a discussion on reforms and initiatives within the Army to ensure diversity, equity and inclusiveness in our ranks at all levels. Mr. Anselm Beach, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Equity and Inclusion Agency) and Lt. Gen. Gary Brito, Assistant Chief of Staff for Army Personnel (G-1) discuss the myriad of programs of initiatives to meet that goal. Professionals in the entertainment industry know very well how critical accurate representation is in entertainment media to the American people's understanding of a topic. Within the Army, we are also well aware of how important it is that those who choose to serve in our uniform are a reflection of the nation they serve. Mr. Beach and LTG Brito discuss historical challenges to diversity, equity and inclusiveness and our current programs and initiatives to tackle those challenges such as: the Army People Strategy, Project Inclusion, the Strategy on Expanding diverse talent in the Officer Corps, the updated Army Diversity Plan, and updated policies on diversity training and combating extremism. Ryan Eckmeier, Project Manager for CBRND-Medical highlighted the mission of their organization to respond to a myriad of threats in order to protect the Joint Force. They also discussed their role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
