Dr. Hal Scherz
Hal C. Scherz MD has been practicing pediatric urology for 23 years. He has been in private practice in San Diego, California and in Atlanta, Georgia and has been on the faculty of the University of California- San Diego and Emory University. He has been involved in resident and fellow training for all of his career, and has published over 75 peer reviewed articles and contributed chapters to 6 academic texts. He has been a reviewer for over 20 years for the major peer reviewed journals in Urology, has been a primary investigator in numerous clinical research projects and been invited to be a visiting professor in a number of institutions. Dr. Scherz is a former president of the American Association of Pediatric Urologists.
Dr. Scherz has been the chief of Pediatric Urology and Managing Partner of Georgia Pediatric Urology since 1994. He has served on the boards of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Ambulatory Surgery Center, The Children's Helthcare Network, and Georgia Pediatric Subspecialists. He currently is involved in the exploratory committee to organize a city wide Pediatric ACO in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Scherz has been the Medicaid reviewer for Pediatric Urology since 1996. He has been named as one of the top physicians by Atlanta Magazine, every year since 2005.
In May of 2009, Dr. Scherz founded the physician group, Docs 4 Patient Care, which has subsequently become one of the most prominent physician groups in championing sensible healthcare reform. He was a featured speaker on a healthcare panel at CPAC in 2010. He has had 2 Wall Street Journal opinion pieces published in 2010 and others featured in Real Clear Politics and other online publications. He has appeared on over 50 nationally syndicated radio shows and on Fox News shows.
Dr. Mike Koriwchak
Dr. Michael J. Koriwchak received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1988. He completed both his Internship in General Surgery and Residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Koriwchak continued at Vanderbilt for a fellowship in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice. He is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
After training Dr. Koriwchak moved to Atlanta in 1995 to become one of the original physicians in Ear, Nose and Throat of Georgia. He has built a thriving practice in Laryngology, Care of the Professional Voice, Thyroid/Parathyroid Surgery, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and General Otolaryngology. A singer himself, many of his patients depend on their voice for their careers. Some are well-known entertainers.
Dr. Koriwchak has performed thousands of thyroid, parathyroid and head and neck cancer operations. He was also one of the first to offer balloon sinuplasty for the treatment of chronic sinusitis.
Dr. Koriwchak has also been working with information technology since 1977. While an undergraduate at Bucknell University he taught a computer-programming course. In medical school he wrote his own software for his laboratory research. In the 1990’s he adapted generic forms software to create one the first electronic prescription applications. Soon afterward he wrote his own chart note templates using Visual BASIC script. In 2003 he became the physician champion for ENT of Georgia’s EMR implementation project. This included not only design and implementation strategy but also writing code. In 2008 the EMR implementation earned the e-Technology award from the Medical Association of Georgia. He has been writing about health information technology since 2010 and has 2 articles published on Townhall.com.
