On the Saturday, February 23, 2019 broadcast of Asia Today with Jeffrey Bingham Mead, my first guest is Kirsten Reinhardt, registrar of the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut USA. Buried Treasures of the Silk Road is a new exhibit that opened to the public on February 9, 2019 and goes through June 2, 2019. In recent years there has been renewed interest in China's Ancient Silk Road. The tomb sculptures come from the museum's Fred and Jane Brooks Collection. A series of lectures accompanying the exhibit have been scheduled. Learn more at BruceMuseum.org.
I'm delighted to welcome as my second guest Claire Chao to the show. With her mother Isabel Sun Chao, she is the author of a truly remarkable book, Remembering Shanghai: A Memoir of Socialites, Scholars and Scoundrels. This is not by any means your garden variety family history or memoir. It is a multigenerational epic that is engaging, entertaining, revealing, and vivid, with a colorful narrative that is rich and compelling. Martin Alexander of the Asia Literary Review calls Remembering Shanghai, "absolutely gorgeous-so beautifully done-the book is such a pleasure to to hold and a visual delight with the turn of every page." Nelly Fung, author of Beneath the Banyan Trees says of Remembering Shanghai "absorbing-an amazing family history filled with tragedies and triumphs-a story of resilience and valor told with candor and humor." Learn more and purchase copies at RememberingShanghai.com or Amazon. Claire Chao will also be my guest on the Saturday, March 2 show coming from Hawaii through 1490 WGCH and WGCH.com anywhere.
It all starts at 10:30 a.m. Eastern USA Time on Radio 1490 WGCH and WGCH.com anywhere via live audio-streaming.
