This week Sofia has Amanda back with one of Amanda’s good friends, Landon, to talk about traveling as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Landon shares his insights as a gay man, but first, he gives us an in-depth definition of what LGBTQ+ means. Then, we dive into all the ways in which traveling is different for LGBTQ+ folks, vs. how it is for heteronormative folks. We also get into LGBTQ+ hot spots, talk about gay bars and gayborhoods! We also talk about safety measures LGBTQ+ people consider when traveling, as well as the criminalization of homosexuality and queer identity in many countries. We also discuss the experiences of traveling in the closet, traveling out of the closet, and what it’s like to return to a place you traveled to while in the closet, once you’re out. Lastly, we discuss how heteronormative people can be a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community at home and abroad.
